Gilberto Lopez, age 74, currently residing in Anderson, passed away at his home on Tuesday May 9, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born in Catano, Puerto Rico, on December 8, 1948, to the late Casiano Reyes Lopez and Hilarina (Chevere) Lopez.
Gilbert was a proud Puerto Rican man, born and raised there. He was an avid sports enthusiast, but his pride and joy were the New York Yankees. He was sweet, sometimes stubborn, and loved to be around people. He was a proud G-Pa and family meant everything to him. He loves to purchase scratch offs and watch Family Feud any chance he could. He was a wonderful father, g-pa, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gilbert is survived by his wife Elsa Capo Santiago; children Gilbert Lopez (Carmen Velazquez) and Derrick Lopez (Kilian Crabtree); grandchildren Gilbert Anthony Lopez (Renate), Marcus Anthony Lopez, Deryann Ramos (Kevin), Erick Lopez (Mireya), Andry Lopez, Lina Lopez, and Graylin Lopez; great-grandchildren Heidi, Sebastian, Genevieve, Arianna, and Chloe Lopez; siblings Nydia Torres, Jose Lopez, Anna Lopez, Norma Lopez, and Miriam Lopez; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents listed above, and siblings George, Edwin, and Evelyn Lopez.
A visitation will be held on Thursday May 18, 2023, from 2 – 5pm and funeral services starting at 5pm at Legacy Cremation and Funeral Service – Anderson.
Additional visitation will be held on Friday May 19, 2023, from 11 – 12pm. Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery at 12:30pm
