Jolene Emilie (Souders) Burkhard passed away peacefully on May 14th, 2020. She was born July 3rd 1952 in Huntingburg, Indiana. She was the daughter of Justyne (Giesler) Souders and Alvin Souders.

Jolene graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1970 and went on to gain a business degree from Indiana University, Bloomington.

She had worked in real estate for many years and was one of the top selling real estate agents of her time.

She was a beloved mother and sister. Jolene loved spending time with her two twin girls, and she was happiest when she was visiting family back home in Jasper, Indiana, so much that she named her favorite dog “Jasper,” a rambunctious Boston Terrier.

She loved to play cards and watch old movies especially around Christmas time. She was an avid collector of all things antique, Longaberger baskets, and handmade quilts. She also loved scouring the shelves of thrift shops for unique finds. She enjoyed being outdoors and camping at various state parks.

She is survived by her two children Mollie (Joe) Stark, Claire Burkhard, sister Nanette (Brian) George and many close cousins on the Souders and Giesler sides of her family. She is preceded in death by her father Alvin L. Souders (Ossie) and mother Justyne (Giesler) Souders.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, to be announced.

Memorial contributions can be made in Jolene’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at

  3. Jolene:
So many great memories of things we did together, just in the few years that I got to know you! You & I clicked immediately & always enjoyed the same things! Many wonderful pictures in my mind. Happy that you are now free & with family. Your memory leaves an indelible impression on my heart! In my prayers for peace, dear friend! Always,

  4. When I first hear the news my heart dropped a little but then I thought no, because now she is herself again joking and laughing and remembering us. She can now see her great niece and knows Molly’s baby is growing inside her. Oh how proud of them she is of her girls, Molly and Claire and her sister Nanette! Now she knows Brian and how much u love each other. She will be talking to our Lord to bless you all with more happiness than you can imagine. Thank you all and remember just how much she loved you all during the times she could not tell you. Love You all!!!!

  5. Sending all my love and hugs to you Mollie, Claire, and Nanette. And, to all others who loved Jolene. ❤️

  6. Jolene, I fondly remember us growing up as “best cousins” visiting often and sleeping over together, your daddy taking us to the YMI for root beer and ice cream, watching fireworks from your driveway, and later a couple of fun cousin weekend-getaways in Brown County. You and your parents were so proud of your twin girls. I think your daddy had already passed before the twins were born. We will miss your smile, your jokes, and sharing good times together. We find comfort in knowing that you are now reunited with your loved ones in perfect bliss! We hope to be reunited again one day!

  7. Rest In Peace Jolene and thanks for letting me be a part of your life. Nanette, Mollie, Claire and your Grandchildren will have an amazing guardian angel in their life. We’ll love and miss you every day.

  8. Nanette, we were so sorry to hear that your sister had passed away. Love ❤️, hugs 🤗 and prayers to you, Brian and your family. Find comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with loved ones.

  10. Jolene and I were suite mates at Indiana University. We connected again many years later and had a delightful time catching up at lunch. Every time I hear the song American Pie, I think of her.

  11. Jolene, I wish I would’ve been able to get to know you better! Thank you for raising your girls to be so sweet and caring. My son, Joe, married Mollie and we love her very much.
Enjoy peace and happiness and be free from your trapped body! God bless you forever
