Richard Lee Layton Senior, 81, passed away surrounded by family and friends at home on March 6, 2022. He was born on December 25, 1940, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is the son of Samuel C. Layton II and Wanda L. Layton (Williams).

Richard enlisted into the Air Force in 1958. He was an airman based in Canada. He was honorably discharged in 1961. He worked for Zimmer Custom Made Packaging for 32 years. After retirement he spent the rest of his life spending time with family and friends.

Surviving family includes his son and daughter-in-law Fredrick Layton and Kaila Layton. His five daughters Teresa Allen, Sheila Abell, Cricket Lane, Tammy Brambila and Wanda Tener. His son’s Vernon Spellman and Richard Lee Layton Jr. His 20 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

The viewing and funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022, from noon to 1:30 PM at Legacy Funeral Home located at 5215 Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46226. The burial will be Friday, March 11, 2022, at 2 PM at Washington Park Cemetery East located at 10612 Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229.
