Robert Dean Lukens, age 90, of Alexandria, passed away at his home on March 20, 2022. He was born on September 27, 1931, to the late Raymond Lukens and Mary Pauline (Kuhns) Lukens.
Dean held many jobs throughout his life. He retired from General Motors and worked at Guide Lamp for a period. He was an extremely talented self-taught carpenter who could make the most beautiful things. He served in the National Guard for 8 years. Dean was a tender-hearted, sentimental man who loved his family deeply. He truly cared more about the well-being of others than of his own wants and needs. He loved traveling on his motorcycle any chance he could. He was a very hard worker, always working in the yard, mowing, or planting flowers. He showed his love for Jesus in the way he treated other people. He was a wonderful dad, papaw, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dean is survived by his children Beth Sparks and Shelley Gorman (Matthew); grandchildren Chris Lukens, Matthew Sparks, Nick Gorman, Amanda Sparks, Joe Gorman, and Christian Gorman; great-grandchildren Hannah Lukens and Jakob Miranda; several nieces and nephews; son-in-law Michael Sparks (Shirley); and finally, his loving Pauletta.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents listed above, son Christopher Lukens, and sister Virginia Cloverdale.
A visitation will be held on Thursday March 24, 2022, from 1-3pm with a funeral service at 3pm at Legacy Cremation and Funeral Service – Anderson. Cremation with burial at Menden Cemetery to follow.
May each of you find courage to face tomorrow as you rest in the knowledge that we truly care about each of your needs and that we will be here to walk beside you in your journey of grief.
Eddie Beagles and the staff of Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services
I miss you from my childhood, all the things we did together. Fishing, pool parties, BBQs and coaching our division winning little league team UAW 663. You were a huge part of my childhood. Love and miss you forever Dean.
Beth, So sorry to hear about the passing of your Daddy. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Our time together was precious. You carved out a special place in my heart.
The Lord was your shepherd, you shall not want. He made you lie down in green pastures, he led you beside still waters, he restored your soul.
You are sorely missed!
Roses were red
Violets were blue
Now they only
Remind me of you;
They make my heart long
To see heaven too!
My heart is so sad
As this world goes mad
With the grief and loss
Of their loving dad.
Help us remember
It’s better to be tender
And loving too.

Today is the day
We lay you to rest
My heart is so sad
This world is a mess.
Everyday at five
I’ll miss the ring
Of the phone.
And Sundays I won’t
Want to be home.
That was the day we saw
your smiling face.
On that day you blessed
us with your grace.
This summer
I’ll watch the grass grow
Because every Thursday
You were ready to mow.
Mom and I will
Miss you this year
We will be watching
For when you are near.
Rest In Peace Dean Lukens
It am honored
to be your friend
I will wait for the day
To see you again.
Love Georgie
