May 13, 1946 ~ May 13, 2023

Born in: Mohall , ND
Resided in: Indianapolis, IN

Sally Gay (Runnels) Mangold beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend died May 13, 2023, on her birthday.  Sally passed away at the age of 77.    Sally was born in 1946 in Mohall, North Dakota.  She later moved to Minot, North Dakota where Sally and her three brothers, Don, Jack, and Lynn, were raised by their parents Ralph and Mercedes Runnels.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Mangold, who she married in Minot on June 20th, 1964.  Edward served in the Airforce, which led to their relocation from the Minot Air Force Base to the Philippines and New Jersey.  After Edward’s honorable discharge from the military, they lived in New Jersey and New York, before finally settling in Illinois.   Sally later, after her retirement, moved to Indiana to be closer to her daughter.

Her passion for animals drove her to volunteer helping with pet adoption.  She adopted and cared for many dogs herself. She enjoyed camping with her husband and grandchildren.   She loved crafts and she even learned to quilt after retirement, proof that it is never to late to learn something new!

Sally was a very loving and caring individual, always wanting and willing to help others.  She worked hard throughout her life.  She enjoyed socializing and spending time with her family most of all.  Her sense of humor resulted in much laughter and loving memories.

She is survived by her son, Edward Mangold of Pleasant Prairie, WI, and her daughter, Theresa (James) Veith of Coatesville, IN, as well as her grandchildren, Kaelan Mangold, Gavin Mangold, Samantha (Zach) Soddy, Amanda (Mike) Carroll, Sally’s great grandson Russell Carroll, Ashley (Emerson) Marenyi, and Trenton Veith.  She also leaves behind her sweet dog, Danny Boy Mangold.

In leu of flowers, please consider donating to your local humane society in Sally’s name. Legacy Cremation Funeral Services-Indianapolis helped assist the family.

  5. Terry, April and I had the pleasure of meeting her at Mike’s and Amanda’s wedding. Sally gave Mike the funniest look during the rehearsal that was absolutely hilarious. I just smiled typing this thinking of the memory. It truly showed what a funny, loving woman she was. God Bless
