A. Joan Stoops, a beloved and cherished member of her community, has sadly passed away on October 2, 2023, due to an extended illness. Born on November 10, 1942, in Noblesville, IN, she was the daughter of Gordon Mills and Mazie L. Nolton Mills.
Joan was a graduate of Noblesville High School and went on to make a lasting impact through her career. She dedicated many years of hard work at Walmart, among other places, leaving behind a legacy of diligence and commitment.
Beyond her professional achievements, Joan held a deep love for her family and friends. As a devoted caregiver, she spent her life ensuring that everyone around her was taken care of. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond blood ties as well; she was known for being a child of God and considered faith to be of the utmost importance in her life.
A devout Christian and an active member of Victory Baptist Church in Noblesville, Joan found solace and strength in her faith. Her church community provided support throughout her life journey.
In her leisure time, Joan enjoyed indulging in various hobbies and interests that brought joy to her life. Whether it was crocheting or knitting beautiful creations or immersing herself in the addictive world of Candy Crush, these activities brought moments of relaxation and contentment to her.
Playing board games - be it dice or poker - with loved ones held a special place in Joan's heart. These cherished memories will forever hold a bond amongst family members as they recall the laughter and friendly competition shared around the table.
Joan Stoops leaves behind a profound impact on those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She will be remembered as the rock of the family - someone who selflessly put others before herself. Her unquestionable dedication to providing care and support will continue to inspire generations to come.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Gordon Mills and Mazie L. Nolton Mills, her brothers Roy Mills and Willie Mills, her sister Naomi "Sue" Butche, and her husbands Thomas Zion Sr. and Leroy Stoops.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her surviving family: her son Thomas Zion Jr. (Tamara), her daughters Naomi Crecelius, Melissa Mullins (Charlie), and Debbie Mounts (Ryan). Additionally, she leaves behind numerous grandchildren including Amy Cran, CJ Zion, Tommy Zion, Joshua Sutton, Jessica Longest (Clinton), Jonny Peters, Steven Crecelius, Christopher Dormady (Crystal), Austin Dormady, Jacob Mullins, Amber Houghtalen (Justin), Brittany Mack, Lakin Howard (Tucker), Corey Mounts, Chelsea Mounts and a multitude of great-grandchildren as well as several great-great-grandchildren. Her presence will be deeply missed not only by her immediate family but also by her nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
To honor Joan's life and pay tribute to the impact she had on those around her, visitation services will be held on October 5th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on October 6th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the location mentioned below. A funeral service will follow on October 6th at 11:00 AM at the same location:

Joan Stoops' departure leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew her. Although she may no longer be physically present with us, her spirit and legacy will continue to shine brightly through the countless lives she touched.
