Fr. Albert Joseph Gibson, an Archpriest with the Orthodox Church of America, and former Pastor of St. John the Forerunner Orthodox Church, died on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 7, 1949 in Hampton, IA to the late Gerald A. and Normadeen (Plecher) Gibson. He attended Christian Theological Seminary where he received a master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling. After decerning his call to the priesthood, he was ordained in the Orthodox Church in 2002.
On May 24, 1975 he married his wife of 45 years Beth Jones. Together, Fr. Joseph as he was known to all, and Beth made their life in West Indianapolis where he was close to his church and Congregants. Fr. Joseph was very well known on the West Side for his kind and compassionate manner to many that sought his help.
Leaving to cherish his memory are his wife Beth; daughters, Emily (Daniel) Faidley and Anna (Jared) Lee; grandchildren, Isabella Faidley, Noah Lee, Connor Faidley, Sam Lee and Ethan Lee; brother, G.A. (Kenna) Gibson and sister, Becky (Mark) Henricksen. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cindy Vale.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Forerunner Orthodox Church, 1421 S. Blaine Ave., Indianapolis. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at the church with burial to follow at Floral Park Cemetery. The family request that is lieu of flowers a donation be made in Fr. Joseph’s memory to the beautification fund at St. John the Forerunner. Memory Eternal.
