Alvin Edward Currens

Alvin E. “Al” Currens, 92, of Shelbyville, IN, passed away on July 5, 2019. He was born on September 30, 1926 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Robert B. and Norine (Blake) Currens. Al graduated from Withrow High School in Cincinnati, OH in 1944. He later received his Bachelors’ Degree from the University of Cincinnati. Al served his country as a Pharmacist Mate in the United States Navy, during WWII. He was also a member of the Zion Evangelical Church of Shelby County. Al was the Human Resources Manager for The Kroger Company in Castleton, IN for over 35 years, retiring in 1992.

Al married the love of his life, Tessa Kuhn, on June 29, 1974. He was a coach and an official in multiple sports, specifically women’s softball and volleyball.

Al is survived by his wife of 45 years, Tessa Currens; son, John Currens (Autumn); grandchildren, Allison, Nolan, and Alaina Currens; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above; son, Timothy Currens; and brothers, Raymond and Donald Currens.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Zion Evangelical Church of Shelby County, 7025 E 100 N, Shelbyville, IN 46176, with a gathering starting at 11am. Arrangements provided by Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services – Lawrence.
