Barbara Jones

Barbara Jones, 97, of Anderson, IN, passed away on October 30, 2023.  She was born on January 15, 1926, in Burlington, IN, to the late Samuel and Gladys (Hyatt) Harmon.  Barbara graduated from Anderson High School in 1944. Following high school, she married Joe Allen Jones, upon his return from WWII. They started a family in Anderson, having two children, Mark and Marcia. In 1952 the family moved to Indianapolis. There Barbara spent her time providing at home for her husband and children. Once her children entered their teens she went to work in sales for Block’s Department Store. Later, she became an administrator for Wheaton Van Lines. She was an active and lifelong member of Central Christian Church in Anderson, IN.

Barbara was very passionate about genealogy. She spent decades collecting and organizing historical information from her family as well as her extended family. Through her work and passion, her family learned a great deal about their history. Alongside her husband, Barbara traveled, via RV, all over the continental United States. These trips aided greatly in her genealogical pursuits. She loved to read, specifically novels and history. She was also an avid yarn and sewing artist who created countless pieces for her friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, mentioned above; husband, Joe Allen Jones; siblings, William Harmon. Along with many cousins, extended family, and friends.

Barbara is survived by her children, Mark Jones and Marcia Jones. Grandchildren, Emmett Drueding and his wife Jenny Lee.

Visitation will be from 12pm to 1pm on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services – Anderson, with a service beginning at 1pm. Burial to follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, IN.
