Billie R. Balser, 97, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Bethany Pointe Health Campus.
Bill was born October 17, 1920 in Elwood to Edward and Ione (Marshall) Balser. He graduated from Elwood High School. He then served in the United States Army, “A” Company, 127th Airborne in the Engineer Battalion during World War II on Okinawa and Japan at the war’s end as a driver for military brass.
On August 29, 1958, Bill married Bettie Jarrett Walker. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in August of 2013.
Bill retired from Delco Remy as a mechanist repair. After retirement, he and Bettie traveled the United States in their RV, visiting his sons in Florida, California and Nebraska as well as many family members in other states.
Survivors include one son, William Balser and his wife, Mary Ann of Alpine, Wyoming and their children, Lisa Garrison, Rob and Craig Balser; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Also surviving are three step-children, Tom (David) Corney-Walker of Newton Abbott, England, Terry Walker and wife Cheryl of Muncie, and Nancy Walker Remington of Anderson; five step-grandchildren, Rick, Kevin, and Dean Remington, Chad Walker, and Andrea Walker Logan; five step-great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren including Abby Remington of Anderson, who was his “special girl.”
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bettie; sons, Dave Balser and John Balser; grandchildren, Anthony and Mandy Balser, and Blake Walker Logan; brother, John Balser; infant twin sister; daughter-in-law, Shelby Balser; son-in-law, Terry Remington; and step-mother, Etta Balser.
Private family services were held Monday, April 2, 2018 at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 504 West Ninth Street, Anderson. Burial followed at Nelson Cemetery, Anderson.
Contributions in memory of Bill may be made to St. Vincent Hospice, American Cancer Society, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
