Carol Jean Poulos

March 6, 1945 — March 31, 2020

Misson Viejo, California

🕊 “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Cor. 5:8

Carol Jean Poulos left us for her heavenly home on March 31, 2020 at 11:30 am. She passed away at Life’s Journey Hospice in Avon Indiana. She was a longtime resident of Laurel, Maryland and recently of Mission Viejo, California.
Her last month was spent surrounded by her family and she was happy and at peace.
Carol was born in Santa Barbara, California on March 6th, 1945 to Lewell and Sophie Thomas.
As with many military families, Carol and her sister Barbara had the privilege of traveling extensively and lived in many different places including Japan and Germany.

Carol leaves behind a great number of ministerial accomplishments. In the 1980’s Carol was a lobbyist in Washington DC for “Concerned Women for America.”  From the late 90’s into the early 2000’s Carol was the chairperson for “The National Inaugural Prayer Breakfast” hosted by Sister Ruth Ward Heflin.
She later founded with her husband, Stephen “Ask for America”.  An organization primarily devoted to strategic prayer initiatives from the Capital. Carol led prayer meetings twice a month from the White House and the Capital. The focus was on reconciliation not only for our nation but for believers and Americans. For the past several years Carol has been actively involved in many avenues of ministry. She was an evangelist and had a passion to see people made whole through a Living Faith in Christ. She never met a stranger. Every person that she met she called, “my new friend.”
She always walked that extra mile for those in need. Perhaps her greatest Ministry was too that of her own family. She was an amazing mom and grandmother “Nana” and she leaves a strong Legacy.

She was greatly loved, and our hearts will never be the same. Yet, within the pain we have a peace of knowing that we will see her again.  Christ is truly our Hope of Glory.

She is survived by her only child: Candace “Candy” (James) Yant, former husband and best friend: Retired Army Col. Stephen. P. Poulos. Five Grandchildren: Stephen Ryan Morgan, Jordan (Stephanie) Yant, Carissa (Greg) Sheets, Victoria (Franz) Navarrete &

Sophia Isabelle Yant. Three Great Grandchildren: Luke Philip Sheets, Ezra Alexander Navarrete and Lana Quinn Navarrete.
Her sister: Barbara Ann (former Marine Master Gunnery Sgt. Tim) Harn and several nieces, nephews & cousins.

She is preceded in death by her greatly loved therapy dog: Prince Giovanni “Gigi” Del Conte -Thomas Poulos.
Her parents: former Marine & Army Master Sgt. Lewell “Tom” Thomas and Sophie “Ann” (Del Conte) Thomas.
