Charles Ray 'Charlie' Toppin

Charles R. Toppin, 91, passed away September 28, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born January 3, 1926 to Raymond and Inez (Reed) Toppin in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Charles graduated from Anderson High School in 1946. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II in the European Theater in Italy. Charles met Mary at Bethany Church and married her June 17, 1951. He worked at Guide Division of GM in Plating and Receiving Inspection, where he retired with over 40 years of service.
Charles was a longtime member of Bethany Church, and most recently attended Fall Creek Christian in Pendleton. He served as a Greeter and Deacon at both churches. He helped establish Boy Scout Troop 240 at Bethany Church. He also served on the District Committee and was a Scout Commissioner. For his hard work and dedication, Charles received the highest Scout honor, the Silver Beaver.
Charles will be remembered as a fun loving man with many great stories.
Left to treasure Charles’ memory is his wife of 66 years, Mary; children, Larry (Michelle) Toppin and Diana Watson; grandchildren, Randy Watson, Charlie Toppin, Raymond Watson, and Sam Toppin; several great-grandchildren; many cousins; nieces, Linda Laird and Janet Quate; and brothers-in-law, Don and Fred Long.
Preceding Charles in death are his parents; sister, Louise Hatfield; daughter-in-law, Marsha Toppin; and grandson, Daniel Toppin.
The family wishes to thank Community Hospice for their love and care of Charles, and Tom Wiles and Skip Mitchell.
Donations in memory of Charles may be made to Fall Creek Christian Church in Pendleton.
Visitation is Wednesday, October 4 from 10:00-Noon at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services. The service will be at noon with Pastor Tom Wiles and Chaplain Rob Mifflin presiding. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery at a later date.
