Charles William Maurer, age 94, of New Palestine, Indiana passed away on April 1, 2020. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and resided in the Indianapolis area for over 62 years. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church for 60 years and attended Nativity Catholic Church for the past two years.

Charles was most proud of his family, faith and his service in the Navy. As a WWII veteran he would love to share many stories and pictures he took as a photographer on the USS Antietam.

He retired from General Cinema (AMC), as a theater manager, giving 36 years of faithful service. After retirement he enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He completed numerous marathons, half-marathons and 5K races as a walker. He was a former member of the Lawrence Sertoma Organization. Charles spent many years as a volunteer at the Children’s Museum, in the dinosaur exhibit; St. Vincent de Paul; and tutored reading at a local grade school.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Juanita Ostendorf-Maurer; children Charles Maurer Jr. (Judith), Richard Maurer (Margaret), Irene Lee (John), Ann Carr (Richard), Nancy Pinard, Patricia Henderson (Scott); 8 stepchildren; sisters Marie Marallo, Patricia Lettie and Carol McCann; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephew and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Irene Maurer; parents Charles and Marie Maurer; and brother Francis Maurer.

Military Honors and a Graveside Service will be held starting at 11am on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, inside the Mausoleum Chapel. His final resting place will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Indy Honor Flight, Plainfield, Indiana.
