Charles Whitmill, 91, passed away July 6, 2017 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis.
Charles was born December 11, 1925 to George and Charlotte Whitmill on a Palco, Kansas wheat farm. The family moved near Lapel to escape the Dust Bowl and farm. Charles served in the United States Army and is a Korean War Veteran. He graduated Anderson College and earned his Master’s at Ball State Teachers’ College. His career was as an elementary school teacher, then Principal at Meadowbrook and Park Place schools.
Charles was a member of Park Place Church of God for more than 70 years. He served as Boy Scout Master for Troop 249 for 35 years, during which time 52 boys became Eagle Scouts. During long school summer vacations, Charles enjoyed taking long trips to see the country, including Alaska, by travel trailer or RV. He was a doting grandfather for his two very special grandchildren whom he dearly loved.
Left to cherish Charles’ memory are his children, Jan (Curt) Foulks and Ron Whitmill; and his grandchildren whom he helped raise, Mackenzie and Evan Foulks.
Preceding Charles in death is his wife of 65 years, Naomi; his parents; and brother, George Whitmill.
Services will be Friday, July 21 at 3:00 at Park Place Church of God with burial to immediately follow at East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation is two hours prior to the service.
