Chris “Smokey” Walker, age 69, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at home, from a prolonged illness. His sweetheart, Alesia, was at his side when God called him home.
He was born on July 28, 1955, in Florence, Alabama to Chris P. Walker, Sr and Louise Walker (nee: Price).
Smokey was a Cubs, Bears and Indiana University (IU) fan. He loved golf, Budweiser, Crown Royal and a good cigar. He was a friend to everyone he met.
Smokey’s clothing showed a passionate devotion to his teams. He had team logos and patches on everything he wore. He kept a wall size season calendar of the Cubs and IU games. So, when he had the chance to attend one he was there. He decorated his living space with team colors and keepsakes.
Smokey was a dedicated golfer. When he wasn’t at home or at the club, he and good friends could be found on a golf course, EVERY DAY! He loved to visit family and friends across the U.S. and no matter where he went he had to find the nearest golf course to get in a game. Every year, he recruited family and friends for legendary golfing trips. No matter where he went on his travels, he had to get a T-shirt from the many bars he visited.
Smokey was a member of the Veterans of Madison County, “the club”, in Anderson IN, where he enjoyed good friends, pool and Budweiser. The club was his home away from home -- his family.
Chris “Smokey” is survived by his grandchildren Chris “Peyton” Walker, III, Haleigh Walker and Mason Walker; great granddaughter, Kenzey Krider; siblings, Donna (Walker) Davis, Cheryl (Walker) Young; and David Walker; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and, of course the many friendships (who he considered family) developed over the years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jason E. Walker; his brother Fredie “Corkey” D. Walker; his mother, Louise Walker, and his father, Chris P. Walker Sr.
The visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Legacy Funeral Home, 504 W 9th St, Anderson IN 46016. The funeral service will begin at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
