Christopher Alan Mitchell, 63, passed away in his home after a battle with cancer on Tuesday November 12th, 2024.
Son of Richard L. Mitchell and Sandra J. Lichte, he was born on June 3rd, 1961, in Carmel, Indiana. He attended Carmel High School, graduating in 1979, after which he entered the workforce as a mechanic. From 1986 until 1989 he owned and operated a torque converter machine shop in Indianapolis. A talented welder from high school shop class on, he made a final move into a career as a Union Pipe Welder in his early thirties, where he would remain for 25+ years. A rarity in his field, Chris was both ambidextrous and a gifted teacher, guiding multiple apprentices into blossoming careers in the trades and long-lasting friendships. Chris welcomed his first child, Pamela, into the world in April of 1990 and his second child, Nicholas, in February of 1992.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents, sister Karen Lichte-Holloway, and brother, Mark L. Mitchell. He is survived by his stepfather Carl Lichte, children Pamela (Adam) Higginbotham and Nicholas (Claire) Mitchell, sisters Cynthia (James) Eaton, Brenda Harris, Debbie Charnley, 2 grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Chris had a passion for traveling, a natural flair for cooking (the best twice baked potatoes on Earth, among many specialty dishes), he was a devoted amateur photographer and had a lifelong love of hiking and riding bicycles. A practicing Catholic for his entire life, Chris spent many evenings and early weekend mornings at his kitchen table with his well worn and greatly loved collection of study Bibles, Bible dictionaries, and Catholic encyclopedias. He had a unique sense of style, as noted by anyone who ever took to the town with him, and he never found a room full of strangers.
His unique energy, unmatched skill as a storyteller, and unrestrained, infectious laugh will always be remembered and dearly missed.
