Cody Edward Myers, age 28, of Indianapolis, IN died on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at his residence.  He was born on November 15, 1989 to Thomas E. and M. Darlene Myers in Indianapolis.

After completing his high school education, Cody enlisted in the US Army National Guard.  He began his career in 2009 as a private in D Company 2-238th Aviation Regiment, located in Shelbyville, IN.  He attended basic training and AIT in 2010, at Fort Leonard Wood, MO as a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear specialist. His first duty station, after completing basic and AIT, was with the D Company 2-238th Aviation Regiment where he spent the first four years of his military career.  In 2013, SSG Myers was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was transferred to A Troop 2-152 CAV where he worked as the CBRN NCO. In 2015, SSG Myers was promoted once again to his current rank of Staff Sergeant and transferred to the 438th Chemical Company.

On three different occasions, SSG Myers volunteered and participated in Operation Toxic Lance and Operation Toxic Valley, where he played an instrumental role in training with the Slovakian Army. In April of 2018 SSG Myers had successfully completed CBRN Senior Leader Course at Ft Leonard Wood, MO. Due to SSG Myers Leadership abilities during the course, the Commandant extended a special invitation to the Regimental Ball held at Ft Leonard Wood. He was also offered a full-time instructor position within the Regiment.  After 38th Infantry Division decided to augment a CBRN detachment for the deployment to Kuwait, SSG Myers was invited to augment the 38th ID during the mobilization as a Platoon Sergeant.

His military awards include: 2 Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals, 1 National Defense Service Medal, 3 Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, 1 Army Service Ribbon, 1 Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon and 3 Indiana OCONUS Ribbons.

Cody was currently employed at IU Methodist Hospital in the Emergency Room as an ER technician.  He loved his job and the people he worked with and was known for his kindness and always having a smile on his face.

Cody leaves behind a wonderful family who loved him unconditionally and will miss him more than anyone can realize.  Left to cherish his memory are his mother and best friend, Darlene Myers; father, Tom Myers; siblings, Shannon Myers, Matt Myers, Michelle (Michael) Hensel, Heather Myers, Hannah (Chelsea Long) Myers and Kyle (Matt Coverstone) Myers; his beloved nieces and nephews, Landan, Evan, Ethan, Faith, Austin, Luke and Lilly; grandmother, Lillian Hollifield, step-sister, Arianna Mullins – Goolsby as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins; an abundance of friends who will always remember how he touched their lives and made things better by his presence.  Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Dave and Doris Myers as well as grandfathers, Thomas “Virgil” Hollifield and Robert “Bob” Smith.

There will be a memorial gathering on Sunday, September 2 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Downtown Olly’s, 822 N. Illinois Street, Indianapolis.  Formal visitation will take place on Monday, September 3 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services – Lawrence, 5215 N. Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis.  Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, September 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.  Celebrant Barbara Milton will be officiating.  At the family’s request, if you have a photograph of Cody please bring it to share at either Olly’s or the funeral home.  Memorial donations in Cody’s memory can be made to the Indiana Youth Group (IYG).  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  Following the service there will be a memorial reception, which all are invited to at the home of Darlene Myers.
