David Derrick Morris

David Derrick Morris, 53, passed away on December 16, 2022, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. He passed away from congestive heart failure. He also suffered from ankylosing spondylitis of the spine, causing him pain his entire adult life.

He was born May 12, 1969 and grew up in Anderson. He was in area schools graduating from Madison Heights in 1987. He also studied building trades at the vocational school. His first job was as a newspaper carrier, going on to work in pet stores, Elliot’s as a bouncer, and General Motors. The spine problems increased, and he went on disability until his passing. He developed a deep love for reptiles and had several throughout his life. He also had Oggy the cat, who is missing him dearly.

David is survived by his mother Dixie Morris Newton, stepfather Sidney Newton, sister Darcy D. Morris Halsell (Christopher), nephew Heath D. Morris Halsell, and his loving girlfriend Sherry Mitchell, whom he had spent the last 4 years with.

The family is forever grateful to Sherry for her care and comfort of David throughout their time together.

He is preceded in death by his father David W. Morris, paternal grandparents Louanna (Morris) Jackson and Albert Jackson, maternal grandparents Charles Fetty and Clora Fetty, Uncles Tim Morris and Richard Fetty, Aunt Patricia (Fetty) Granger, nephews Dylan K. Morris and Dakota E. Morris, and several cousins, family, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Derrick later in Anderson.
