Detai Han, 85, passed away in Carmel, IN on August 27, 2024. Detai was born to Shuqing Han and Zhihua Hou in Dalian, China on March 18, 1939. He was a beloved son who took care of his mother in the years after his father’s passing. Detai found joy in caring for others, especially his family. He was devoted and loving family man who always put his wife and daughters before all else. As a grandfather, he was involved, encouraging, and always present.
He will be remembered by family, colleagues, and students as an enthusiastic and attentive professor of ancient literature. Through his work, he enjoyed teaching classic stories from China. In addition to his permanent position, he took adjunct professor jobs at various times to further share his passion and knowledge in bringing Chinese literature to students worldwide.
In addition to his parents, listed above, Detai had three brothers who preceded him in passing. His only sister will forever cherish their memory. Detai is survived by his wife, Guiying Lin; daughters, Shaling Starr and Sharing Dulaney; and granddaughter, Emily Starr. For friends, family, and the nursing staff who cared for him in his final years, he will be sorely missed and forever loved.
