Dewey Manley Cain was born in Dante, Virginia on April 6, 1932 to Dewey C. Cain and Mary Foster Cain. He departed this life at his home on Monday, June 7, 2021. Dewey attended Arty Lee School in Dante for eight years and then attended Morristown Junior College, a Methodist college prep boarding school in Morristown, Tennessee, to complete four years of high school, where he met the Lord.
After graduation, he entered the Air Force where he was an Aircraft Mechanic, presiding over a crew of eight. He and his crew were responsible for maintenance on an aircraft bomber during the Korean War. After four years of service, he received an Honorable Discharge. He attended Tri-State University (now Trine) in Angola, Indiana, a school for military veterans, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in 23 months. Upon graduating from Tri-State, he relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana to work for Spurling Trucking Company and he joined the United Methodist Church. In June, 1958 Dewey married Jacquelyne Dawn Campbell. To this union was born two daughters, Michelle Renee and Kimberly Dawn. Dewey and Jacquelyne would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 29, 2021.
After several years at Spurling, he worked for the Economy Finance Company. In 1972 Dewey joined the Indiana National Bank (later NBD). He retired from NBD in 1987 as Assistant Vice President. After enjoying a short retirement and getting to know his new grandson during the summer, he joined Martin Center College (now Martin University) as the Financial Aid Manager. He retired for good in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Michael Cain and sister, Claudette Cain. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Jacquelyne Cain; daughters, Michelle Cain Wright and Kimberly Cain; grandchildren, Steffan Wright, Mason Case (Cain) and Madison Case (Cain); sister, Lois (Eddie) Walker; brothers, Terry Cain and Marvin (Pam) Cain, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dewey was a loving husband, father and grandfather, as well as a brother, uncle and cousin. He will be missed by all.
There will be a graveside service at 12noon on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Washington Park North Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.
