Edwin Linton Ricard Sr., 93, passed away at his residence in Anderson, Indiana following a short illness, on June 12, 2024. Edwin was born July 31, 1930, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Gilbert and Lydia Ricard.
Edwin was honorably discharged from the Army in 1957 where he served in the Korean War. Edwin was employed at General Motors until he retired after 39 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Edwin was a member of the American Legion for 52 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Edwin also attended cosmetology school where he met the love of his life, Mayzine Ricard. He was a barber for 50 years. Edwin went on to marry the love of his life in 1972. They were married for 52 years. Edwin enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, and spending time with family.
He leaves to cherish his wife Mayzine Ricard; 4 children Kimberly Bullock (Jack) of Anderson, IN, Linda Ricard, Cheryl Sweatt (Curtis) of Indianapolis, IN, Edwin "Toby" Ricard Jr. (Rhonda) of Anderson, IN, and stepson Vern "Flip" Freeman of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren Erica, Mirrana, Kinosha, Kysha Ricard, Kiniqua' Mason, and Lee Ricard; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Larry Ricard and Kirby Ricard both of Baton Rouge, LA; sisters-in-law Weddie Mae Green and Patricia Moore of Anderson, IN Shirley Leamon (Ezell) and Benzilla Moore of Huntsville, Alabama; brother-in-law Billy Moore of Anderson, IN.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother Gilbert and Lydia Ricard; sisters Dorris, Lucie, Audrey, Ilean; brothers Hubert, Gilbert, Lloyd, Allowishes; father-in-law Milton Moore Sr.; mother-in-law Lorene Nance; sister-in-law Mildred Smith, Lena Miles, Earlene "Kookie" Clark; brothers-in-law Buford Moore, Eddie Moore Sr., Milton Moore Jr., Marvin Nance, Mervin Nance, and Donald Moore.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice, St. Mary's Church, Anderson Zion Baptist Church, Straight Gate Community Church, Legacy Funeral Home, and Maplewood Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Monday June 17, 2024, from 10am-12pm at Legacy Funeral Home with a funeral service beginning at 12pm. Burial will take place at Maplewood Cemetery. Pastor Cecil Golder III, Pastor Doyle Moore Jr., and St. Mary's Catholic Church will be officiating.
