Elizabeth JoAnn Lane, 79, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 24, 2019. She was born on January 15, 1940 in Williamson, West Virginia to the late Curtis and Laura (Vernatter) Yates. JoAnn and her family moved to Kentucky, and that was where she was raised.
One day after church, when JoAnn was young, she met George Barnett. He was waiting for her just outside the doors. They got married in December 1955. Together they had 2 sons, John and George Jr. JoAnn and George went their separate ways in 1970 and JoAnn, with both her sons, moved to the state of Washington later that same summer. That is where she met the 2nd man in her life, Thomas Lane, and they were married for 38+ years, until his passing. It wasn’t until 2011, when JoAnn was diagnosed with dementia, that she and her son, George Jr., moved to Indiana to stay with her eldest son and daughter-in-law, John and Brenda.
JoAnn was a homemaker, whom cared for her son, George Jr. for his entire life. And even though she only had an education to the 9th grade, she loved to read, especially her Guideposts. JoAnn was loved by her entire family and will truly be missed.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents and husband, mentioned above. She is survived by her sons, John Barnett and George Barnett Jr.; daughter-in-law, Brenda Barnett; 4 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and 1 soon to be great-great grandchild.
