Elza “Buck” Speers, Jr. – 71, of Indianapolis, IN passed away at the Veterans Affairs Hospital January 20, 2022 while surrounded by his loved ones.
Born January 30, 1951 to Ada Tanner and Elza Speers, Sr., Buck lived on the West side of Indianapolis most of his life. In 1971, Buck joined the United
States Army and was honorably discharged in 1979. He then moved back to Indianapolis, where he worked as a diesel mechanic for over 40 years, retiring from PTL Truck Lines in 2019.
Buck loved his cars, dogs, and being with family and friends. He enjoyed telling stories and making people laugh, if he could get through them without laughing himself!
His love for cars and animals were like no other. When he wasn’t helping others, his favorite pastime was sitting in his driveway and tinkering with his hot rods.Buck was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, his sister: Janet Trotter, and his fiancé: Anna Becker. Survivors include his daughters: Tina Scott, Angela Berninger (Steve), Shelly Harrison (Bryan), and Morgan Speers. Son: Scott Speers. Stepsons: Zach Sigmund (Cassi) and Jake Sigmund (Alicia). Brother: Rex Speers.
Sisters: Beverly Weingart and Laura Walker, as well as 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be held February 1, 2022 at Legacy Funeral Home, 1604 W. Morris St., Indianapolis, IN 46221 with visitation from 3PM to 4PM and funeral service from 4PM to 5PM.
