Gary Leo Watkins, a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa, passed away October 28, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on September 27, 1945, in the same vibrant city, Gary lived a life rich with love, devotion, and countless cherished moments.
Gary dedicated his working years to AM General Corporation and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His commitment to his country exemplified his values of service and sacrifice, characteristics that he carried into all aspects of his life.
Beyond his professional achievements, Gary found immense joy in the simple pleasures that life offered. He embraced the tranquility of fishing, immersed himself in the worlds of books, and was an avid fan of boxing. His fascination with radios led him to become a HAM radio operator, and CB radio operator. A hobby that kept him connected with friends and fellow enthusiasts alike. However, nothing brought him more happiness than the time spent with his family. Whether it was picnics in the park, fishing expeditions, or memorable movie nights at the drive-in, Gary treasured the moments spent with his wife, Linda, and their children—Carry (Kevin), Rick (Lisa), Janice, and Travis (Amber). His love for his grandchildren—Brittany, Ryan, Justin, Kellie, Billy, and Nichol—and his 16 great-grandchildren was immeasurable, as they filled his life with laughter and joy.
Gary was a man whose heart was full of love and warmth. Gary was proceeded in death by his parents, Donald and Ermal Watkins, his daughter, Candy Sue, 6 sisters, 2 brothers, grandson Rick Willoughby, great-grandson T.J. Willoughby, and his two best friends, Jack Price and Fred Martin. He also shared a special bond with his beloved fur buddy, Jesse the cat, who brought him comfort and companionship.
The profound impact he had on the lives of those around him will forever resonate. He was called to his heavenly home, leaving behind a legacy of love, respect, and fond memories.
