George Thomas Andrews passed away on August 24, 2020
He was born (Parents John Wesley and Nellie Vertice Andrews) by most accounts in 1944 in a shack that used newspapers for insulation, possibly right on the State Line of Kentucky and Tennessee, near “Red Boiling Springs”. The last born of 6 children, he was preceded in death by his parents and 5 other siblings, affectionately known as “Slim Edith”, “Monk”, “Teetsy”, “Bubby”, and also Roxy. A group that spent their lives In the Hoosier, Volunteer and Sunshine States.
He was married in January 1965 to Marjorie Wetzel. They had 2 children, Tracy (wife Missy) and Toni (husband Curtis Eggleston) and four grandchildren, Bryanna, James, Trinity, and Wesley.
He served a term in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper as part of the 101st Airborne, and he had a tattoo on his shoulder to prove it. He was discharged honorably in 1967.
While serving, he injured his ear. On his trip home from the Army, he sat next to Sue Lyons on the plane – the actress who played “Lolita”.
He worked at Bridgeport Brass 25 years, where he PROUDLY attained the level of “Superintendent of the Sheet Mill”. He stuck with Olin Brass after they took over for another 12 years. In the last 20 years or so since retiring, he has worked off and on for Securitas Security. (At the Airport Fed Ex Terminal)
He achieved milestones in Education – IU Associates (Certificate) in Accounting 1973; IU Bachelor of Science in Business 1980 – the first “Andrews” to receive a college degree.
He valued “Family”. Enjoyed watching Westerns, especially the ones starring John Wayne and directed by John Ford. He liked FOOTBALL, NASCAR and the INDY 500. His playful presence was unique and always brought a smile to our faces.
A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.
