Georgia Helen Venable

Georgia Helen (Scott) Venable, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 14, 2025. She was born on February 22, 1938, in Warsaw, IN, to Howard and Marion (Nye) Scott. Georgia graduated from Warsaw High School in 1956. She was a member of Lawrence United Methodist Church.

Georgia was a licensed hairdresser and worked in many salons after high school. Georgia met her husband Edward Venable in January 1960. They married 8 months later, on August 28, 1960. They established residence in Lawrence, Indiana where they raised their three children. Their home was full of life, family and friends. Anyone residing on Elmhurst was welcome, from getting their hair styled in Georgia’s salon in the basement, to hosting a dance party in the living room, a backyard cookout, or a “bad storms coming – everyone in the basement” gathering, Georgia’s home truly was the community’s hang out space.

Georgia loved the outdoors. Whether it be the woods or the beach, she wanted to be out in it. She loved flowers, especially lilacs, gardenias, and gladiolas – and anything purple. Georgia lived to be in the sunshine, just soaking it all up. She loved nature in every way. Music and time spent with family was special to Georgia, who spent happy memories listening to her son play drums in practice and with a band. 

Georgia and Ed loved raising their children, Cheryl, Elizabeth, and Eddie, and being involved in their after-school activities. When Cheryl played softball, Eddie played little league football, she was at every game. And when Elizabeth was on the dance team in high school, Georgia would ride the competition bus many Saturdays with the Honeybears volunteering to style the dance teams hair before the band performance. When Georgia became a grandmother, she was in her full glory – being able to spoil her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, mentioned above; her husband of 50 years, Edward Venable Jr.; sisters, Dorothea, Virginia, and Mary Ann

Georgia is survived by her children, Cheryl Venable, Elizabeth Shepherd (Scott), and Eddie Venable (Christi), grandchildren, Rebecca, Olivia, and Abigail

Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 3pm on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 5215 N. Shadeland Avenue, with a gathering starting at 2pm.
