James Douglas “Doug” DeBaun of Danville, Indiana passed away on April 9, 2025, at age 72. He was born on April 29, 1952, to Donovan R. DeBaun and Marlene J. (Hurst) DeBaun. Doug was known by his community as a musician, singer and songwriter entertaining at clubs, private parties, nursing homes and assisted living facilities in central Indiana.
Doug often knew and shared a song’s inspiration with his audience before performing. Doug’s early musician talent was inspired by The Beatles and spanned from age 13 until nearly age 73. Doug traveled to other states with his band in his early singing career but returned to central Indiana where he felt most loved and at home.
Doug is survived by his girlfriend, Diana B. Haltom, his mother, Marlene J. May and father, Wilson S. May, Jr. and siblings: Joyce (DeBaun) Eggleston, Rick DeBaun, Debbie (May) Gremillion, Sam May and Rex May (sadly, deceased March 15, 2024); among many other friends and family whom he cherished.
Doug will be remembered dearly loved, a friend to many, a gifted musician and entertainer who brought smiles for miles and empty chairs for those who stood to dance.
