Throughout his career, Jim worked as a carpenter and millwright at Attlin Construction for 48 years, showcasing his versatility and ingenuity in various trades. A true jack of all trades, he embraced challenges with a steadfast resolve - if he encountered something unfamiliar, he would dedicate himself to mastering it by the day's end. His insatiable thirst for knowledge was apparent to all who knew him, earning him the reputation of a natural-born leader who never shied away from difficulty. Failure was a concept alien to James; he lived by the mantra "I can," embodying resilience and tenacity in all his endeavors. He was a man of many talents and unwavering determination
In addition to his professional pursuits, James cultivated fond memories through his passion for tuning into the CB Radio and indulging in his love for flying as a licensed pilot. His adventurous spirit soared through the skies whenever he took flight.
Education played a crucial role in James' life journey. A proud alumnus of Muncie Central High School Class of 1955, he continued his academic pursuits at Ball State University and Ivy Tech. Notably, at the remarkable age of 70 years old, James achieved his LPN degree - a testament to his unwavering commitment to learning and growth throughout his lifetime.
Described as stubborn yet loveable, James endeared himself to those around him with his unique charm and unwavering principles. His profound love for mathematics transcended from being a mere hobby; it was a lifelong passion that drove him to constant study, research, and exploration of new horizons.
James also dedicated himself to serving his country with pride and honor. He valiantly served in the United States Navy and later continued his service in the Army National Guard, embodying duty and patriotism throughout his military tenure.
James B. Franklin's legacy extends far beyond his mortal years; he leaves behind cherished memories and an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His resilience, leadership, and boundless curiosity will continue to inspire future generations.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Jane (Herron) Franklin; children Brian Franklin (Bailea) of Camden, TN, Michele Franklin of Muncie, IN and Chad Franklin of Muncie, IN; grandchildren Heather Franklin, Brandon Franklin (Kendra), Kristina Flowers, Bailea Guidice (Stephanie), Martina Campbell, Annastasia Franklin, and Arielle Franklin; great-grandchildren Blaine Franklin, Kynlee Franklin, and Harlynne Franklin; several nieces and nephews; and special dog Chewy.
He is preceded in death by his parents Albert Franklin and Roxie (Sells) Stettler, and siblings Phyllis Norris (Jim), Phillip Franklin (Norma), Herb Franklin (Dolores), Boyd Franklin (Shari), Thomas Franklin, Beaulah Franklin, in-laws Richard and Dossie (Davis) Herron, and sisters-in-law Betty Herron and Carolyn Douthitt.
