James Michael Howard, 78, of Greenwood, IN, was promoted to glory on August 18, 2023, in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on July 2, 1945, in Kankakee, IL, to the late Paul and Mary (Suits) Howard.  James graduated in 1963 from George Washington High School in Indianapolis, IN and received his bachelor’s degree in 1969 from Olivet Nazarene University. James worked as a consultant for many different organizations through his lifetime. He was a faithful soldier of The Salvation Army at various corps in IL, CO, and IN.

James loved to drive and take road trips, and to sample the local restaurants in every town. He was an accomplished raconteur who loved to meet new people. On Sundays, he was found singing, playing baritone, or conducting the brass band at his local corps to praise the Lord. He was a voracious reader, and passed that love of reading on to his children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above, Paul and Mary (Suits) Howard, and his brothers Shadrach Howard and Timothy Howard.

James is survived by his four daughters, Jennifer Thomas (Randy) of Louisville, KY, Samantha Raby (Dan) of Aurora, CO, Heather Howard of Chicago, IL, and Gabrielle Rosenblum (Joshua) of Oak Park, IL; as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by six of his siblings, Rod Howard of Indianapolis, IN, Logan Howard (Virginia) of Fresno, CA, Judy Suits of Fairland, IN, Mark Howard of Indianapolis, IN, Mary Jo Gilliam of Huntington Beach, CA, and Caleb Howard (Trish) of Anaheim Hills, CA.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 4 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Fountain Square Corps of The Salvation Army, 1337 Shelby Street, Indianapolis, IN 46203, followed by fellowship and light refreshments. Cremation Arrangements provided by Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services – Lawrence. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.
