James (Jim) Milton Eckert, 90 years old, of Indianapolis, April 19, 1931 – August 14, 2021 Passed away peacefully in his sleep after a fast decline in health. Jim was born in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. Jim is survived by three children, Dennis Eckert, Debbie Thompson, and Tammy Harris, son -in-law Ronnie Harris, daughter – in – law Ellen Eckert. Two granddaughter’s, Claire (Jacob) Meyer and Laura Harris, 6 great- grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his sister Patricia McClelland and her husband Kenneth McClelland, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. and Veronica (Kemmerer) Eckert, longtime companion, Lois Jackson, brothers, Thomas Eckert, Edwin Eckert and granddaughter, Rebecca Montgomery and son – in – law, Gordon Thompson. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army, and served his county in the Korean War. He was first lieutenant in the Internal Security Corps of Indiana. He worked for Hunters Run Apartment Complex for 30 years, but never knew when or how to retire, he was always doing something. He was the commander of the American Legion Post # 497. He was known to many as “Foghorn” for his loud mouth and hard of hearing. His 90 years on this earth was never wasted. He will be greatly loved and missed always.
Funeral service for Jim will be held on Monday August 30, 2021 at 12:00 noon at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services – Indianapolis, with visitation from 11:00 am until service time at the funeral home, burial will follow at Lincoln Memory Garden Cemetery Whitestown, Indiana.
