James G. Ware

February 13, 1935 — March 18, 2025

James G. Ware, 90, of Indianapolis passed away on March 18, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Phillis; daughter, Debbie Ware Chapman (Utah); stepson, Michael Stafford; and Steven Root who Jim & Phillis raised. Jim will also be missed by his 11 grandkids, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews, his cat, Miss Kitty, and his good buddy, Ed.

Jim was the owner of Books Unlimited for 30 years. He had a knack for finding books that were out of print or signed by the author. He was an avid reader and had many interests. Some of his favorites were books, pottery, vintage watches, and competing in track and field.

At the age of 50, he began competing in Senior Olympics and National Masters Events. He competed in 100m, 200m, 400m, HJ (high jump), and hurdles. He competed up to age 80! He earned many gold, silver, and bronze medals. He loved sharing medals with his grandchildren, and they loved it too.

Jim loved the track & field competitions however he loved meeting interesting people and visiting the cities across America that held these competitions as well.

He stayed physically active running and working out the majority of his life. He was an honorary member of NIFS (National Institute for Fitness and Sport) where he enjoyed a good workout.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents Jim W. and Lena K. Ware, two sisters, six brothers, and stepson, Greg Stafford.

There will be a memorial service for Jim at a later date to be determined.
