Jerry Lee Cunningham, 69, passed away in Marion on October 27, 2016. Jerry was born in Anderson, Indiana on May 19, 1947 to Floyd A. “Jack” and Mildred I. (Gooding) Cunningham.
After graduating Frankton High School in 1965, Jerry attended Ball State to start working on his teaching degree. He left college to serve in the United States Army. He earned the Purple Heart award, two Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device Marksman Badge.
Jerry returned to Ball State, earning his Bachelor’s degree. He taught 5th and 6th grades at Anderson Community Schools. His passion for the children led him to coach basketball, sometimes picking them up in his truck so they could participate.
Jerry took great interest in Veteran’s Affairs. He was a staunch Democrat and enjoyed politics. But most of all, Jerry loved his grandchildren and supporting them in their activities.
Left to treasure Jerry’s memory are his children, Laura (Michael) Dellinger and Jack (Linda) Cunningham; grandchildren, Payton Dellinger and Parker Dellinger; sisters, Sandy Horn and Resa (Glenn) McCord; several nieces and nephews; and his four legged dog companion, May Lee.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life is at Frankton Christian Church on November 3 at 4:00 PM, with visitation from 3:00-4:00. A private graveside service with military honors will take place at a later date.
Contributions in memory of Jerry may be made to the Veterans’ Hospital in Marion or Frankton Lapel Schools.
