Joanna Josephine Balk

Joanna Josephine Balk, 29, of Indianapolis, passed away on January 5, 2022. She was born on March 16, 1992 in Bellflower, CA to Kyle Balk Sr. and Deborah (Krabbe) Balk. Joanna graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 2009, a year ahead of her class and attended Bradley University. Joanna worked as a CNA and Home Health Aide for many years. After her boys were born and up to her death, she worked as an independent contractor for different retail establishments, like Survey, Field Nation and the Source, as well as many others. This allowed her to have a non traditional work schedule where she could be more available for her boys and still be able to make money to pay the bills.

Joanna was not currently a member of any church, clubs, or organizations. She did however have an annual family membership to the Indianapolis Zoo, a family membership to the YMCA, and Fair Oaks Farms to name a few. She always wanted to make sure her boys were busy and happy.

Joanna loved to take her boys on trips or “adventures” and take them swimming. She enjoyed listening to her music and going shopping. She enjoyed hanging out with her best friend, Jessika French. Joanna also had a special relationship with her Grandma JoAnn Krabbe and enjoyed talking to her regularly.

Joanna seemed to always be helping someone, whether it was with a place to stay, food, clothes, money, completing paperwork, or providing information on resources available. She was very kind and loving and giving. Joanna was a great girlfriend, granddaughter, daughter, mother and friend. She will truly be missed.

She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Carl F Balk, Gemma (Leo) Balk Wilcox, and paternal grandfather, Kenneth E. Krabbe Sr.

Joanna is survived by her fiance and father of her boys, Matthew Logan, her son’s, Waylon G Logan, age 4 and Hank E Logan, age 2. Her parents, Kyle Balk Sr. and Deborah Balk; brother Kyle Balk Jr. and his daughter, Emma Grace Balk. Her maternal grandmother, JoAnn Krabbe, 2 uncle’s Ken Krabbe Jr. (Lori), William Balk (Betty) (previously Sonya Hernandez), 1 aunt, Donna Schaefer (Joe), 8 cousins, Jessica Krabbe (Amanda), Kenny Krabbe III (Kourtney), Brittani Griffith Reyes (Ryan) , Curtis Balk (Fannie), Hailey Balk (Nik), Jimmee Meredith (Josh Downing), Randi Schafer (Chad Ferguson) and BJ Nagel (Denise).

Joanna’s Celebration of Life is on Saturday, February 19th from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Oakland Masonic Lodge #140 at 11730 Verdin Street, Oaklandon, IN 46236. There will be a short service, followed by a gathering of friends and family, with food and refreshments. Children are welcomed as Joanna’s sons, Waylon and Hank would love to have them celebrate their mom with them.
