John A. Smith

John A. Smith, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 9, 2019.  He was born on December 5, 1930 in Manchester, KY to the late Marcum and Ida Smith.  John graduated from Manchester High School.  He married the love of his life, Anna Chadwell on July 20, 1951 in KY.  They later moved to Indianapolis for his job at a fork lift operator for RCA.  After getting laid off, John decided to become a police officer, where he worked for the Indianapolis Police Department for 24 years, retiring in 1984.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above; and 2 grandchildren, Jayson Allen Campton and Britney Nicole Smith.

John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anna Smith; children, Gail Williams, Joan Y. Campton, Terry A. Smith, Eddie L. Smith, David M. Smith, and John W. Smith; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, with 2 on the way.

Services will be at 12pm on Monday, April 15, 2019, at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 5215 N. Shadeland Avenue, with visitation starting at 11am until the start of the service.  Entombment to follow at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.
