John Malcolm Phillips, 72, of Indianapolis, IN passed away due to complications of dementia on Monday, August 19th with his loving wife of 50 years by his side.
John graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1965, and attended Purdue University for a short time before volunteering to serve in the Army during the Vietnam War. He served as a Pharmacist Technician in Germany and upon honorable discharge he attended and graduated from Butler University School of Pharmacy. After graduation, he went to work at the VA Hospital as a Pharmacist for 25 years until his retirement in 2006.
Survived by his wife, Theresa (Terri) Phillips, daughters: Angela Phillips, Jennifer (Walt) Harder, Becky (Jay) Douglas, grandchildren: Hunter Harder, Jordan Harder, Joe Harder and Evangeline Douglas, niece: FayAnn Hollcroft and great-nephew: Tecadeh Hollcroft.
John was proceeded by his parents Fran and Fred Phillips, his sister Ruth Earle and her husband Kenneth.
John will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and a former member of Ben Davis Lions Club. He was a man with a wonderful sense of humor and a commitment to his family’s faith, but most of all he will be remembered by all whom he encountered as a caring and kind man willing and ready to help those in need.
