John Wayne Nims, 67, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. John was born in Indianapolis to the late Wayne E. Nims and Nelly Chlorine Parrish on June 13, 1953. John grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from North Central High School, Class of 1970. He was a lover of the race world, working as a USAC official and technical inspector for the Indy 500 for 20+ years. He had a passion for airplanes, was a pilot as well, and worked with Cessna.
John had many passions and accomplishments through out his life. He loved his animals. Most importantly, John was a family man. He was always there for family, friends and his neighbors. For those who knew him, knows the jokester and prankster side of John. He would do anything for a laugh, a big kid at heart.
Preceded in death by his father, Wayne E. Nims and mother, Nelly Chlorine Nims; also by his beloved dogs, Red, Six, Missy, and Spank.
John is survived by his wife, Debra R. Nims; son, John Wayne Nims Jr.; daughter, Lindsay D. Nims; step-children, John, Michael, and Brandie; grandchildren, Brylin, Ashlyn, Dylan, Daxxon, Seth, Nina, Olivia, Victoria, and Annakay; and sister, Frankie Dickey.
Services will be on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services – Lawrence. Due to the Pandemic, services will be private.
