Joy lived most of her life in Pendleton. She attended elementary, middle, and high school, graduating in 1994. Her working career mostly included 3 Kroger stores, helping to open 2 of them. She started out as a cashier and ended up running customer service.

Most of her life Joy suffered from multiple medical issues, developing Type 1 diabetes at age 13. Her ability to confront and deal with all these health problems was truly inspiring.

Joy grew up attended Abundant Life Church of God in Anderson. The past three years she attended Living Word Worship Center Church of God in Pendleton. Her faith in God carried her through a lot of dark days, especially as more and more health problems came upon her. Her ability to “keep on keeping on” is an example to everyone.

For 6 years, Joy was a military wife as Mike served our Country. Those years were spent at H. Bragg, NC, supporting her husband through 2 deployments to Afghanistan.

Joy was so happy when her nephews Parker and Peyton were born. Her brother Jon and sister-in-law Jennifer were good to share the boys with Joy and Mike. Joy is a wonderful aunt to Parker and Peyton. They will never know they joy and happiness they gave her.

Joy truly was a “joy” in so many lives. At the end of Joy’s amazing life, through organ donation, she saved one person’s life with the girl of her lungs. She also gave others a better life with her gift of skin and bones, as well as the Vigus nerve and right kidney for research.

Mike is the love of her life and went into their marriage with eyes wide open as to Joy’s medical health issues. He never fell short in his love, care, and protection of Joy.

As Joy’s mom and with her father Earl, it was an honor and privilege to be entrusted with the responsibility of raising and molding her life. To have the opportunity to raise her in church and later to witness her faith and trust in God to grow over the past few years God certainly blessed us.

Joy will be missed in ways we never imagined. Her strength in times of adversity will continue to live on as well as her example to live for Jesus Christ. God’s strength as well as Joy’s strength will be our comfort and inspiration in the days ahead.

Joys “Going Home” Celebration will be Saturday April 13, 2019 at her church, Living Word Worship Center with visitation from 12-2pm, memorial at 2pm. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson. Current pastor Bishop Roger Losch. Retired pastor Bishop Danny Tompkins, and longtime friend Rev. Keith Martin will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Joy’s family would love all memorial contributions to be made to JDRF Type 1 diabetes research, Kidney Foundation, or organ donation.

Joy would want special mention made to her longtime best friends Breanne and Randy Boer. Mandi R., Seberina Hatten. Beth Thompson, and Carrie Goodrich. Also special mention to vocalists Shannon Martin and James Lunsford.
