Larry W. Jones, 79, passed away in Indianapolis on October 8, 2017. He was born in Anderson on September 5, 1938 to J. Paul and Jenny (Moody) Jones.
Larry graduated from Anderson High School and attended Anderson College. He served in the United States Navy as a Radar Technician flying early warning missions on VW-Z’s (Superconnies) over the North Atlantic. He was stationed in Portugal and Newfoundland during the Cold War. Larry was a Tool and Die Maker at Guide Lamp in Anderson. He retired after 31 years of service.
Larry loved nature. He particularly enjoyed water sports including fishing and swimming. Just last year he swam 100 laps at the Anderson University pool. He also enjoyed baseball and discussed baseball during this year’s playoffs. He and Sandy would go to the casinos where he expertly played poker.
Most of all, Larry loved his family. He cared tenderly for his wife, Sandy, always opening doors for her and dropping her by the door while he parked the car. No matter how he felt, he was always happy to see his grandchildren. He was a man that put family first, lived life to the fullest, and he was a peaceful man.
Left to treasure Larry’s memory is his wife of 53 years, Sandy; children, Tracy (Brett) Gilliam and Tammy Koziol; and grandchildren, Drake Gilliam, Bryce Gilliam, Taylor Koziol, and Katelyn Koziol.
Preceding Larry in death are his parents, J. Paul and Jenny Jones; and granddaughter, Angel.
The family expresses special thanks to the nurses at Anderson Community ICU; Community Hospice North, especially Yolene for her tender care; and deep gratitude for Dr. Ford and her wisdom and recommendations.
Donations in memory of Larry may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the March of Dimes.
All services are private. Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services assisted the family with arrangements.
