Lewis E. Bovard, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away on December 21, 2020. He was born on December 5, 1932 in Rising Sun, IN to the late Ebert and Edith (Irons) Bovard. Lewis met his wife, Gail Weiler, in 1962 when both of them were volunteering at the polio vaccine distribution site at North Dearborn High School. Lewis was from Lawrenceburg and Gail was from New Alsace. They were married the following year in July 1963 and spent the next 57 years together. One of their favorite pastimes was skiing. They loved travelling to upper Michigan with friends and with their kids to Utah and Colorado on ski trips. Another one of their loves was enjoying good food and they were declared foodies. Lewis served his country in the US Air Force and had a career in medical electronics.

Lewis will be greatly missed by his wife, Gail; daughter, Sue Ellen Bovard-Kentner of Indianapolis; son, Carl Bovard from Florida; and grandchildren Jake and Sophie. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ebert and Edith (Irons) Bovard and brother, Leo Bovard.

A private mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, January 6, 2020 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Indianapolis. A graveside service will be held for Lewis at All Saints Parish, St. Paul’s Cemetery in New Alsace, IN. Estimated time for the graveside service is 12:45pm for those that would like to attend.
