Lydia Mardell Hairston Dailey, age 49, was born May 19, 1969 in Marion Virginia and transitioned to her Heavenly home on June 19, 2019 in Indianapolis Indiana after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Lydia graduated from Louisville High School in Louisville, Mississippi in 1988.  She discovered her gift and passion for art and studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus Ohio for two years. She also attended Jones Community College in Ellisville MS and later transferred to Delta State University, in Cleveland MS, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. During her time at Delta State, Lydia started a campus ministry which cultivated five churches and pastors in the state of Mississippi in the last 20 years.  In her most recent years, Lydia pursued a second degree in Early Childhood Education from Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis and was on the Dean’s List multiple semesters for her academic achievement and excellence.   Despite cancer treatments and failing health, Lydia completed her classes, volunteered many hours of community service, and in April 2018 was inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success.   Lydia dedicated her professional career caring for children as the Director/Owner of Our Kids Before and After Care Center, a Kindergarten teacher at Abounding Grace Childcare Center, the Director of Christ Church Apostolic Christian Academy, an Instructional Assistant at Lakeside Elementary School, and a caregiver at Caring Place’s Promised Land Daycare center.  Lydia dedicated her life to service and ministry for her church family and her work family.  She shared light and love with us all.

Preceding her in death were her paternal grandparents, George Hairston and Mittie Hairston Carter; maternal grandparents, Clinton Hayes Richardson and Margaret Sawyer Richardson, Clinton H. Richardson (uncle), Betty Hairston (aunt), and Kenyamu Richardson (cousin).

Left to cherish her memory are her parents, District Elder Robert Hairston and Evangelist Susan Richardson Hairston; her children, Landon Dailey, Lauren Dailey and her bonus daughter, Luchia Warfield; along with her siblings, Lorie Hairston Davis (Jeff); Robert Tobin Hairston (Annette); Tonya Hairston Ware (Adrian); Joseph Bernard Hairston; Regina Hairston Smith (Robert); Mittie Hairston Brown (Carlton); John Manuel Hairston; Jason Jerome Hairston; and Sarah Hairston.  Uncles and Aunts are Jerome Hairston and Leahgretta Chiles Hairston, Bernard and Rachel Hairston and Sandra Ford Richardson. Nieces and nephews are Brandon (Tunisha), Breanna, and Arianna Davis, Bridget and Paris Hairston, Wisdom and Wealth Ware, Tandreka, Ty’Nisha, and Lashontrei Henton, Christon Hempel, Josef, Joleigh, and Joshuah Hairston, Micah, Simeon and Robert Smith, and Alexandria Haven Brown. Great nieces and nephews are Brandon and Brooklyn Davis, Cashmier and Zorayah Hunt, Amir and Nasir Armstrong and Caleb Sierra.  Cousins include: Clinton Richardson, Jr. (Lisa), Wyetha “Peaches” Prevost (Marvin), Thomas, Kyle, and Zoe Prevost, Bettina and Jerome Hughes, Bernard, Bert and Baron Hairston, Marcus (Nikki) and Neka Mabry, and many more. Chi Conner,  Lydia’s best friend for 20 years, along with her children, Antwoine and Anequa Conner hold on to the precious memories of her life with us all.

Lydia’s Celebration of Life will be held 12:30 p.m. on July 2, 2018 at Christ Church Apostolic, 6601 Grandview Drive, Indianapolis, IN.  Please mail letters of condolence to Christ Church Apostolic, attention: Lady Ruth Tyson.  Flowers can be sent to Christ Church Apostolic before noon the day of service. However, if you would like to donate in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lauren and Landon’s Savings Fund directly at cash app Landondailey or to the Memorial Fund at Teacher’s Credit Union.
