Mack W. Fishburn

Mack W. Fishburn, 74, Indianapolis, passed away on March 29, 2020. He was born on August 10, 1945, to the late Elzie & Effie Fishburn and was the youngest of the family. Longtime Westside resident (Valley & Little Valley) and 1963 graduate of George Washington High School.  Mack proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1971. He retired from National Starch & Chemical in 2008 with 40 years of service.

Mack was a proud fifty year member of Indianapolis Masonic Lodge #669 and forty-seven year member of Murat Shrine in which he was an active member of the Director’s Staff which serves all Murat Shrine initiations and setting lights and audio for all Murat concerts. Mack compassionately volunteered at the Murat Shrine Circus for several years and was an advocate of the Shriners Hospitals for Children. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite (50 years) and York Rite.

His passion was music and he began singing at a young age and continued throughout his lifetime.  He was a local entertainer and Elvis tribute artist for many years. His band, Mack Fishburn and the Memphis Revue, played at one establishment (Segal’s) for about four years in the 70’s every weekend to a packed house. Mack’s favorite entertainer was Elvis. He admired him from a young age and later became an Elvis tribute artist performing a one man show called “Memories of Elvis”. Mack loved to entertain and enjoyed seeing people have a good time. He was also an impressionist and covered voices of Louis Armstrong (Satchmo), Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Tiny Tim, Loretta Lynn, and Alvin the Chipmunk. He enjoyed watching people’s reactions when slipping in some of these voices into a song. He sang with several bands over the years at various central Indiana locations. He also enjoyed singing at karaoke night at the American Legion Post #64 where he was a member.

Mack was an avid reader and enjoyed solving crosswords on a daily basis. He was a history buff and enjoyed studying about his favorite president Abraham Lincoln, Elvis, music history, U.S. History, and memorizing and documenting his personal family history.  He also enjoyed watching sports, NASCAR/IndyCar, westerns and RFDTV.

Most of all, Mack was a loving man and enjoyed spending time with family and close friends. A hard working, kind, and compassionate man, he was always there for his family. He was our “rock” and our lives will never be the same without him. He will always be remembered for his honesty, generosity, and fun loving ways.
