Margaret Kahikina

September 22, 1944 — July 31, 2024

Margaret Jane Dodd Kahikina, 79, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away on July 31, 2024, after a short battle with colon cancer.

Jane was born on September 22, 1944 to Charles and Doris Dodd in Anderson, Indiana, and grew up in nearby Alexandria. She graduated from Alexandria Monroe High School in 1962. After graduation, she studied toward a secretarial degree at Ball State University. She worked as a secretary for Don Marsh of Marsh Supermarkets in Yorktown, Indiana before moving to Honolulu, Hawaii where she also did secretarial work in a law office.

Jane met Herbert (Herb) Kahikina in 1970 on a beach in Waikiki. They were married March 29, 1971. After starting their family in 1973, they moved to Indiana in 1974 to be closer to Janeʻs family. They bought a home in Anderson, Indiana and had their second child. Over the years, Jane worked as a secretary at the Anderson Herald-Bulletin, Emge Meat Packing Company, and in the accounting and purchasing departments at Saint Johnʻs Hospital. She also worked at Kohlʻs Department Store in customer service for several years. She had countless treasured friends at each of these employers where she was known as a feisty yet caring and hardworking woman. She was lovingly referred to as Sarge and GI Jane in some of her workplaces for her tenacity and well known “sailorʻs mouth.”

In 2011, Jane and Herb moved to Arizona in search of a more temperate climate than we have in Indiana. However, they returned to Anderson in 2015 to be close to their grandchildren again. Jane spent much of her time with her grandchildren especially at the park, the library, or the swimming pool. She was an extremely involved and loving grandmother who will be eternally missed. She was also an avid reader and spent many hours in libraries. She enjoyed watching sappy Hallmark movies and “her Gibbs” on NCIS, taking long walks, and cheering on the Pacers (usually yelling and cussing at the TV). Jane will always be remembered as a kind and selfless person who continually put others first, especially her children and grandchildren.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents Charles Dodd and Doris Dickey Dodd as well as many loved cousins, aunts, and uncles. Jane is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Herb Kahikina; her daughter Caroline (Melvin) McCloud and her son Nelson (Danielle) Kahikina; and her grandchildren Ketierra McCloud, Dejon McCloud, Jahla McCloud, Liannah (Jordan) Mullanix, Kailani McCloud, Nani McCloud, Matai McCloud, Noelani McCloud, and Makoa McCloud, as well as two great grandchildren and her beloved cat Charlie boy.

A celebration of Janeʻs life will be held at North Anderson Wesleyan Church, 1947 E 240 N, Anderson Indiana 46012 on her 80th birthday September 22, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to either the family for the celebration of life expenses or to the Anderson Book Nook, a nonprofit bookstore which supports literacy in Madison County Indiana
