Mark D. Jones, 58, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away unexpectantly in his home on March 19, 2019. He was born on August 21, 1960 in Peoria, IL to Gilbert and Ann (Girsch) Jones. Mark graduated from Illinois Valley Central High School in 1978. He attended Augustana College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1983. Most recently, Mark was contracted to work for the CDC through Booz Allen Hamilton as a Medical Terminologist and Informatician. He was the Treasurer of the Persimmon Properties Homeowners Association.
Mark loved to volunteer his time to friends and organizations he cared about. During his daughters’ high school years, he worked as a Pit Crew dad for the Lawrence Central High School Marching Band, where he helped build props and assisted the band in moving equipment for performances, as well as assisting the show choirs and theater productions. In recent years he found his niche in the gaming world. Be it online video games, card, or board, he enjoyed them all. He even went so far as assisting in the development and testing of new board and card games. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Mark is survived by his wife of almost 29 years, Janet (Mears) Jones; daughters, Kelsey Marie Wickham (Andrew), Caitlin Nicole Jones and Alana Rose Jones; granddaughter, Lillie Elizabeth Wickham; parents, Gilbert and Ann Jones; siblings, Linda Newcomer (George) and Karen Jones; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a funeral mass at 11am on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Chillicothe, IL, with a gathering starting at 9am, followed by internment at Swan Lake Cemetery in Peoria, IL. A celebration of life and visitation with the family will be in Indianapolis, IN on April 6, 2019 at Daniel’s Vineyard in McCordsville from 3pm to 7pm.
