Mary Evelyn Tolle Sullivan, 78, of Markleville, Indiana passed away February 20, 2019 from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
Mary was born March 5, 1940 in Tipton, IN. She graduated from Windfall High School in 1958 & Manchester College in 1962 with a degree in Music Education. She completed her master’s at Ball State. Mary taught music at several elementary schools including Tipton County, Ingalls, & East Elementary, Pendleton from which she retired in 1984.
Mary was a loving wife to her husband, Earl J. Sullivan, and mother to Richard Christopher “Buck” Evans.
Mary spent many of her retired years in community service as a Red Cross volunteer and as an EMT with the Adams Township Fire Dept. She was also a member of the American legion Ladies Auxiliary serving at veteran’s funerals.
Mary loved to travel. She visited many places such as Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Austria, Alaska, the Caribbean, and wintered in Florida for many years.
Mary’s adventurous spirit led her to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef, white water rafting, parasailing, zip lining, and other exciting activities.
Mary’s pastimes included solving puzzles like jigsaw, crosswords, and Sudoku. She was an avid reader and collector of vintage Fiesta ware.
Mary is survived by her son Richard Christopher “Buck” Evans (Lana) of Markleville, IN; brother Mike Tolle (Jenny) of Windfall, IN; grandchildren Alyssa Evans Seal (Stephen) of Pendleton, IN, Caitlin Evans of Markleville, IN, Lance Corporal Isaac Evans USMC (Ellen), of Camp Lejeune, NC; great-grandchildren Hallie Mae Seal of Pendleton, IN and Hank Evan Seal of Pendleton, IN.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Earl J. Sullivan of Markleville, IN, parents Lavon and Louise Tolle of Windfall, IN, sister Ruth Ann Tolle Sutphin, of Ft. Wayne, IN, and brother John Tolle of Windfall, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Mary.
A visitation will be held on Monday February 25, 2019 from 3-6PM with a funeral service beginning at 6PM at Legacy Cremation and Funeral Service – Anderson. Pastor Dave Freeman will be officiating.
