Mary Elizabeth (Case) (Murdock) Hester, beloved mother, grandmother and devoted family matriarch, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, in Carmel, Indiana, at the age of 103. Born on July 6, 1921, in Anderson, Indiana, Mary exemplified a life dedicated to service, compassion, and love.
Throughout her career, Mary helping business owners with her accounting skills, always eager to lend a hand where she could. Her passion for volunteering was evident in her involvement with the Special Olympics, where she held the title of Gourmet Sampler Superstar, showcasing her commitment to the betterment of her community. Furthermore, her dedication to service earned her the prestigious lifetime achievement award from the Salvation Army as a testament to her hard work and devotion.
Mary’s family, particularly her granddaughters, cherished the fond memories created with her and her late husband, Floyd. They fondly recall exciting travels, including their first-class airplane ride experiences, which became treasured moments that they will carry with them forever.
Known for her vibrant personality, Mary was a true giver, persuasive in her endeavors, tenacious in her pursuits, and sweet to everyone she encountered. Her fashionable sensibility ensured that she was always dressed to the nines, embodying grace and elegance. Operating on her own time, she demonstrated a unique blend of independence and spontaneity.
In her leisure hours, Mary found joy in gardening and taking care of her yard, activities that brought her immense satisfaction. She had a passion for baking, often preparing delicious treats for the firefighters at her son's station, generously sharing her culinary talents with those around her. An excellent cook, Mary was particularly renowned for her chocolate confections and unbeatable fried chicken, reflecting her love of creating delightful experiences for others.
Mary is survived by her granddaughters Kelly Kichler (Eric) and Kris Henderson; great-grandsons Justin Henderson and Colin Kichler; daughter-in-law Peg Murdock; her special angel Heidi; sweet caregiver Aniece; niece Vicky Good; several other nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents Oren and Martha Case; husband Floyd Hester; siblings Ken, Gerald, Harold, William, Donny, Geraldine, and Katie; son David Murdock; stepdaughters Miriam Hester and Marilyn Dorff; step-grandson Michael Dorff.

A visitation will be held on Thursday November 21, 2024, from 12-1pm with a funeral service at 1pm at Legacy Cremation and Funeral Services - Anderson. Burial will take place at Pleasant Walk Cemetery.
