Mary Jo Saffran, 64, of Indianapolis passed away Oct. 25th, 2019. Mary Jo was born on September 20, 1955, in Oak Park, IL to Rev. George C. and Joanne R. Saffran (nee Jones). She was raised in the Chicago area and later near Jasper, IN. She graduated from Jasper High School. She attended Hanover College earning a Bachelors’ degree in Psychology. She earned a Masters’ degree in Social Work at the University of Louisville and a second Masters’ degree in Gerontology from the University of Indianapolis. The majority of her work experience was in the field of social work.
Mary Jo was an excellent listener and problem-solver, with a great sense of humor. She had a way of putting people at ease and was a natural counselor. She was also an animal lover. Mary Jo and her life partner, DC, had a soft spot for all animals. They provided a place to call home for over 29 previously homeless dogs and cats during their 31 years together.
Proceeded in death by her parents and her life partner, DC Good, Mary Jo is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Drew) Thayer and son, Jeremy (Lauren) Good; grandchildren, Will Thayer, Gillian and Georgia Good. She is also survived by two paternal aunts, Birdie Vario of Sparks, NV and Harriet Pihera of Somonauk, IL.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on November 16th, 2019 at 1:30pm at Faith United Church of Christ, 4040 E. Thompson Road, Indianapolis, IN 46237.
