Mary Myles Cooper Kimsey passed away at 5:45 pm in St Vincent’s Hospice of Indianapolis on March 3rd, 2018 at the age of 85. She was a dedicated wife, homemaker and mother who raised two sons.
Mary was predeceased in 1987 by her husband, C. Edward Kimsey, after a marriage of 34 years. In 1962, they moved from Chattanooga, TN to Indianapolis, when Ed, a registered pharmacist with an extensive graduate school background in Pharmacology, was recruited by Eli Lilly & Co. where he ultimately became Head of Consumer Technical Services.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her sons, John of Oak Park, IL and Jim of Indianapolis; grandchildren Anne and Andrew; daughter-in-law Carol Mahan Kimsey; nieces Susan, Bobbie and Kelly and nephew Robert Cooper as well as nephew Gary Adkins, wife Anita and their children Gary L., Adam and Amy Adkins.
Mary was born in Chattanooga, TN on April 4th 1932, the youngest of three siblings. She graduated from Chattanooga Central High School in 1949 and attended Carson-Newman University in Jefferson TN.
Mary was a music lover who played piano by ear and passed that love very directly to both her sons. She particularly enjoyed the singing of Patsy Cline, the playing of Flatt & Scruggs, the songwriting of Roger Miller and the comedy of Andy Griffith. She was a big fan of a young Judy Garland and The Wizard of Oz. There was a special place in her heart for her dogs Corky, Toby and Beau. She was a humorous and lively storyteller who enjoyed dancing, cooking, watching classic movies and, perhaps most of all, visiting with close family and friends. She encouraged her sons to excel and gave them loving support in their undertakings. She was a devout Christian who, in her younger days, was active in First Lutheran church in Chattanooga and then in the Lutheran church in Indianapolis. She retained a keen interest in religious/spiritual themes until the end of her life.
