Mary Jean Harris-Phillips was born on September 10, 1944, in Greenwood, Mississippi to Willie Harris and Josie (Green) Harris. As a devoted Licensed Practical Nurse, she dedicated her career to caring for others. This tied directly into Christian beliefs and helped to always bring her closer to God.
She loved to travel, having spent many years in New Orleans, Louisiana and Phoenix, Arizona. When she was not traveling, she spent much of her time thrifting, people watching, and spending time with her family. Mary was especially close to her mother Josie, who she reminisced about often, particularly in her later years.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents (listed above), 7 siblings, and grandson Isaiah Phillips (Angela). Mary is survived by her twin sister Martha Harris, her children: Angela Phillips, Tina Harris, and Christopher Phillips; and 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. As well as many friends and family who will forever cherish her memory.
She passed on September 7, 2024, in Westfield, Indiana at the age of 79. She was days from celebrating her 80th birthday but was remembered by her close family with multiple balloon release celebrations. Her absence will be felt deeply by her family, friends, and those closest to her. Cremation arrangements were made by Legacy Cremation and Funeral Services—Lawrence.
