In Remembrance of His Life…..

Matthew L. Manuel was born on March 19, 1960 to Cassie L. (McMillan) Manuel (Mobile, AL) and Robert Manuel, Sr. (Citronelle, AL), in Indianapolis, IN. Matthew attended Elementary School in Indianapolis and in Detroit, MI; He attended High School at Northwestern in Detroit, and later received his diploma from the Indianapolis Day Adult Program. Matt later attended Ivy Tech and ITT Institute to become a highly skilled Master Mechanic.

Matthew accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age, and was baptized at Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Indianapolis, IN. Matthew once again accepted Jesus Christ in his life, during his last stay at Eskenazi Hospital with the spiritual guidance and renewed biblical teachings of his Nephew, Pastor Keith D. Dorsey, of Louisville, KY. He prayed the “Sinners Prayer”, asking our Lord and Savior for forgiveness, rededicating his life and renewal in the Body of Jesus Christ! Matthew had one Daughter with Ms. Dorothy Scanlan (Deceased), Ms. Desiree Laiyanna Leialoha Manuel, who is 17 years of age. Desiree is a true beauty, with a beautiful voice! She is a Honor Student at Lawrence Central High School, here in Indianapolis, IN, where she is a Senior, due to graduate in May 2022! She IS Matthew’s Finest accomplishment, Brightest Shining Star, and his Legacy for Generational Change, in our Family and Community! As Desiree plots her course in Early Childhood Development or whatever else she chooses… WE, Her Family, Her “Village”, assured Matthew we would help her Succeed, Prosper and Grow!

Matthew over the course of his employment years worked many different jobs, He was a Driver for Pony Express, he then became a Manager for the Jiffy Lube and Valvoline Oil Change Centers for many years. He also helped his favorite Brother-in-Law, Avis C. Bell, run his small lawn service business, called “Yards by Design”, more than a business venture, it was a time of bonding and laughter for them! Matthew LOVED his Family! He was the family’s “Master Mechanic”! He worked on everyones car, and kept them up and running. He was truly the best mechanic most of us have ever known, we called him the “Car Whisperer”! Matt “retired” early due to health and vision issues, but he jumped right into other things he liked to do. such as cooking and trying to “steal” everybody’s recipes! This Brother could truly cook, and loved to throw down in the kitchen! His Mother and Sisters taught him well! He was always calling up one of them for a new recipe or a new ‘take’ on a old one, He would have “cook offs” with his best buddies, while bragging over the phone about who was cooking what and how it turned out!
Since Matthew could no longer work on cars, he became a “Master Mentor” to those who would visit him at home and listen to his instructions. To his main Buddies, Damon, Ernest, Fred, Larry, Lloyd, & Terrence, you all were His “Rock” and Sounding Boards and he loved You each for your Loyalty and unwavering Friendship! Thank you for always being there!

In his latter days, Matthew decided he would spend his days in Hospice care at home with his Daughter Desiree, and his brother, Joseph Manuel, who assisted him daily, along with the Staff, Nurses, and Doctor of Seasons Hospice Service. We are eternally grateful for the Family members, Friends and Co-workers who stopped by to see him or called to check up on him. Thank You from the bottoms of our hearts! All of You helped to make his burden light; and his transition Peaceful.
