Melvin Thompson, age 90, passed away at home on December 20, 2020. He was born on January 26, 1930 to the late Erba and Pearl Thompson.
Melvin was an extremely kind-hearted and soft-spoken man. His children liked to refer to him as their “gentle giant.” He was unique and you will never meet anyone like him. He would do anything for his family. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #150 and a lifetime member of the Eagles. He worked as a groundskeeper for Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery from 1954-2010. He was retired from Nicholson File. He liked to spend his time golfing, fishing, and bowling. He was a wonderful dad and papaw and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Melvin is survived by his children Carolyn Morgan, Karen Thompson-Stover, Diane Ashby (Mike), and Christa Clark (Marshall); grandchildren Shane (Tracy), Nick (Erin), Megan (Greg), Jennifer, Samantha (GJ), Jeff, Heather (Jeff), Cassandra (Chuck), Nikkia (Charles), Sydney, Marcus, and Justin; great-grandchildren Sarah (Jerrod), Ashley, Cohen, Beckham, Makinzee, Zayne, Zoey, Braylen, Hannah, Hollie, Ian, Haley, Morgan, Koi, Gavin, Ethan, and Donovan; great-great-grandchildren Elijah and Emmy; brother Gene Thompson (Fran); brother-in-law Chuck Lindsey; and special friend Desiree Thompson.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Mae Thompson; his parents listed above; son Rayburn Thompson; son in law Jim Stover; grandson’s Brad and Jesse.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday December 23, 2020 from 12-1pm with a funeral service starting at 1pm at Legacy Cremation and Funeral Service – Anderson. Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
